Frank Woodley - Possessed Four Stars
Smash-bang-slapstick fun
And then there was one. From the trio Found Objects, through duo Lano and Woodley, Frank has been a Fringe fixture for two decades. His first solo show, Possessed, steps up the staging with a fully fledged apartment set- all the better to hurt himself with. In Woodley's hands, even the most innocuous and inanimate of house hold objects becomes a death-trap. To compensate for his new found lack of stage partners, Woodley invents his own comic foil- becoming possessed by the spirit of a sexy shipwreck victim called Phoebe O'Leary. Watching Woodley slip down staircases, collide with furniture, tumble from ladders and fall flat on his face is like a Buster Keaton movie brought to life. There are also shades of Steve Martin in 'All of Me' as Phoebe fights for control of Woodley. Throw in a blossoming romance between two people in the same body, and it's an inspired device for physical comedy.
